The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG-CRG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.

CNAG-CRG provides world-class core bioinformatics resources to the Spanish research community for the Plataforma de Recursos Biomoleculares y Bioinformáticos (PRB2) through the Instituto Nacional de Bioinformática (INB), of which we are partners.

We seek a bioinformatician with a strong computational and genetics background to work for PRB2 to conduct DNA analyses, mainly for germinal variant and somatic mutation identification. He/She will join the Data Analysis Team and will work in close collaboration with Spanish researchers. The candidate must be pro-active and able to work independently on his/her specific projects and as part of a team.  Besides conducting analyses, he/she should be able to design experiments and interpret results and will be expected to contribute to the software development and benchmarking efforts of the CNAG-CRG.

Responsabilities: 

1. Proactive data analysis in cutting edge projects, including design, data mining, interpretation, reporting and scientific communication.

2. Development, maintenance and operation of bioinformatic pipelines.

3. Collaboration with the Spanish and  International research communities.

4. Assist in writing grant proposals and manuscripts.

 

Requirements: 

1. A PhD or MSc in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or related discipline and/or proven experience in the field.

2. A minimum experience of 3 years in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data and interpretation of results.

3. In-depth understanding of genetics.

4. Experience with Unix operating systems, including shell scripts.

5. Skilled programmer in languages such as Perl, Python or Ruby and R. Knowledge of Java, C++ or other programming languages will be highly valued.

6. Good spoken and written English.
