Population Genomics
Group Leader

Oscar Lao is the Population Genomics group leader at the CNAG-CRG

 

He holds a degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona and a PhD in Health Sciences from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Between 2005 and 2014, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Forensic Molecular Biology Department at Erasmus Medical Centre University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Since 2018, he teaches at the grade of Bioinformatics offered at ESCI and at the master of Bioinformatics at UAB.

 

His work focuses on the analysis and interpretation of the genetic variation present in human populations, and the development of new statistical and bioinformatics machine learning tools for the inference of demographic processes. As result of this work, Oscar Lao has co-authored over 70 articles and book chapters published in prestigious scientific journals and encyclopedias.
